Biography
John Warnke was born on 2 January 1828 in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. He immigrated to the United States around 1853, arriving via New Orleans after an eight-week sea voyage. He settled in the St. Louis, Missouri area, where his eldest known children were born (Caroline in 1858, John Jr. in 1857).
He served in the Union Army during the Civil War with the 1st Missouri Infantry, Company C.
John married Sophia Kuchenmeister. They had at least six children (possibly eight per MyHeritage). The family later relocated to Saline County, Nebraska, where John farmed until his death on 6 September 1898 near Kramer.
He is buried at Riverside Cemetery in Crete, Nebraska, alongside his wife Sophia.
