Biography
Doris Vaughan Fulghum was born on November 20, 1922, in Buckner, Missouri, the only child of Roy Vaughan and Blanche Jones Vaughan. She was a descendant of early Jackson and Clay County, Missouri settlers.
Doris was a 1940 graduate of William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri. She married Gale Fulghum on September 14, 1944, in Chicago (while Gale was in Navy Midshipman School). They had one son, Gary Vaughan Fulghum.
Doris was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, which required documented proof of descent from a participant in the American Revolution. She was also an avid genealogist, active in the PTA, libraries, Boy Scouts, and the Red Cross. She belonged to a church and volunteered in nursing homes.
She died on August 6, 2014. Private family services were held. She was survived by her son Gary and daughter-in-law Terri; grandsons Clay (Kristin) of Kansas City, MO and Jordan (Mary Kate) of Chicago; two great-granddaughters Leighton Gale and Amelia Ann; and first cousin Kaye Vaughan of Knowlton, Quebec.
