Biography
Hettie Adeline Kirby was born 26 July 1876 in Jackson County, Missouri, the daughter of John Abner Kirby and Sarah Johnson Kirby. Her father died before her 1894 marriage; her mother Sarah signed the marriage license as "the surviving parent" when Hettie wed Walter M Vaughan on 10 May 1894. After Walter's death in 1914, Hettie married Charles Henry Carter in 1918 and lived in Buckner, Missouri until her death on 13 February 1965. She is the maternal great-grandmother of Doris Vaughan Fulghum through her son Roy Wallace Vaughan.
