Susannah "Sukey" Shortridge was born in Virginia on 6 November 1779, the daughter of John Shortridge (DAR Patriot A207508) and Nancy Wren. She married Elexius Harris on 15 February 1798 in Fairfax County, Virginia; the marriage is recorded in Virginia marriage records (1607-1800 collection). Her father's will, probated in Montgomery County, Kentucky in 1820, names her as "Sukey Harris," confirming the connection. Her siblings named in the will include Betsy, Sally Hopper (Sarah Shortridge, b. 2 Apr 1788), Nancy Hedges, Melissa Fuqua, Polly Butler, and William Shortridge. Elexius Harris's estate was appraised in February 1844 in Montgomery County, Kentucky.
