Biography
Marinda Wrightsman was born 28 April 1838 in Clay County, Missouri. Her parents were almost certainly Peter and Polly (Officer) Wrightsman, Virginia natives who settled in Clay County around 1823 or 1824, making them among the earliest settlers (the county was organized in 1822). This identification is based on the History of Northwest Missouri (Williams, 1915), which documents Peter and Polly's arrival and their daughter Susan's 1834 birth in Clay County. The Wrightsman name appears across Clay County marriage records with variant spellings (Wrightsman, Writsman, Rightsman), and four Wrightsman/Rightsman daughters married in Clay County between 1855 and 1863, consistent with a large family of sisters including Marinda.
Notably, J. H. Samples married Mary Rightsman on 9 April 1863 in Clay County. This Samples-Wrightsman connection predates and likely facilitated the later marriage of Marinda's son Jonathan_R_Jones to Harriet Samples in Jackson County.
Marinda married W_Kenneth_Jones on 1 May 1864. They raised five children in the Salem neighborhood of eastern Jackson County: William_Arthur_Jones (1865), Jonathan_R_Jones (1867), Charles_F_Jones (1870), Claude_M_Jones_Lynch (1873), and Maudie E. Jones (later Maude Coldsnow, confirmed by the 1881 county history). Lutie B Jones (1877-1906, FaG #91541065), buried in the same lot at Salem Cemetery, may be an additional child or relation.
Marinda survived her husband by about 16 months, dying 23 May 1905. She is buried at Salem Cemetery, Independence, Jackson County, Missouri.
