Biography
Elizabeth Hansford was born in 1626 in York County, Virginia, the daughter of Colonel John Hansford, who served on the Justice's Bench of York County in 1655, and was a resident of Hampton Parish from at least 1647. She married Randall Holt Jr. in October 1663.
Her brother Colonel Thomas Hansford was executed for his role in Bacon's Rebellion (1676), making him the first Virginia-born colonist executed by hanging. Thomas served as commander in chief of four counties and president of the Court of Sequestrations during the rebellion.
After her husband's death in 1679, Elizabeth controlled 1,450 acres in Surry County (the Hog Island property resurveyed after Randall's death). She died before 3 May 1709 in Lawnes Creek Parish, at approximately 82 years of age.
