Will of "JAMES VOUGHN" of Brunswick County, written 12 May 1735, recorded 3 July 1735. Wife Ann received "the plantation I now live on with all the lands belonging to it to her and her disposal. Likewise all the rest of my worldly goods during her widerhood or death and then to be equally divided among my children." Executors: sons James and George Vaughan.

Biography

James Vaughan Sr. was born around 1671 and settled in what became Brunswick County, Virginia. He obtained a land patent for 250 acres on the south side of Three Creeks in 1719. He sold 50 acres of this patent to Robert Wynne before his death. His will, recorded in Brunswick County, Virginia, named wife Ann and sons James and George as executors. His son James Vaughan (~1704-1750) was the father of Capt. Reuben Vaughan Sr.

James Vaughan Sr. is the earliest documented Vaughan ancestor in the direct line with a surviving primary source (his 1735 will).
