Will dated 20 July 1740, recorded in Lunenburg County Virginia Deed Book 1, page 484, on 3 July 1750. Names sons Reuben Vaughan, Stephen Vaughan, and James Vaughan; daughter Luce Vaughan. Reuben Vaughan named executor. Witnesses: William Andrews and Richard Andrews.

The ten year gap between writing and recording suggests the will was written well before death, or that probate was delayed. Lunenburg County was formed from Brunswick County in 1746, which may have complicated record-keeping.

Biography

James Vaughan was born around 1704, the son of James Vaughan Sr. of Brunswick County, Virginia. Named executor of his father's 1735 will, he inherited a portion of the family's Three Creeks lands. He obtained a patent for 115 acres on the north side of the Maherrin River in 1736. His lands fell within Lunenburg County when it was formed from Brunswick in 1746.

His son Reuben Vaughan served as Captain of Militia in the Revolutionary War and is a DAR patriot (A118329).
