Their Story

France to New France

Honore Louis Tesson was born in 1685 in Beaulieu-sous-la-Roche, a village in the Bas-Poitou region (modern Vendée) of western France. His father Honore Tesson and mother Catherine Bordin Savinier were from this area. The elder Honore died in 1714.

On 9 April 1720, at age 35, Honore Louis emigrated from the port of La Rochelle to New France. He was recruited under a notarial contract with Charles De Fleury Deschambault, executed before notary Rene-Francois Desbarres. The contract specified a salary of 100 livres per year with a year's advance and a small measure of eau de vie each morning. Charles De Fleury sent Honore to his brother Joseph Fleury de la Gorgendiere Deschambault in Quebec. Honore was accompanied by his friend Pierre Gaultier, also a miller, a native of Poire sur La Roche in Poitou, aged about 21.

Montreal and Marriage

Honore Louis settled in the Montreal area. On 13 October 1732, at age 47, he married Marie Euphrosine Debluche in Longueuil. Marie Euphrosine was only nineteen, the daughter of Bertrand DeBluche dit la Serre and Catherine Therese Edeline. Through Catherine Therese, she was the granddaughter of Jeanne Braconnier, the Fille du Roi.

They had at least four children, including Louis Honore Tesson (b. 1733), who would carry the family to the Mississippi Valley.

Death

Both Honore Louis and Marie Euphrosine died in 1754, he on 29 January and she on 10 April, both at the Hôtel-Dieu in Quebec City. Their son Louis was twenty-one.
