Their Story
Anna LaFleur was born 26 April 1841, the youngest of eight children of Joseph LaFleur and Eugenia Virginia Tesson. Her mother's family, the Tessons dit Honore, were among the earliest French colonial settlers in Missouri, tracing back through Louis Honore Tesson (a DAR Patriot who fought at the Battle of St. Louis in 1780) to Honore Louis Tesson, who emigrated from Vendee, France in 1720.
The LaFleur family was large: eight children spanning 1825 to 1841. The names reflect a mix of French and English usage (Jean, Marie, Thomas Vital, Lelandia), consistent with a French-speaking Missouri family assimilating in the early nineteenth century.
Anna married Walter Hogan Dickinson. They had at least three daughters: Ivy, Anna, and Maude (b. 1878). The younger Anna died on 16 January 1887, and Walter died on 16 March 1888, leaving Maude orphaned of her father at age nine. Anna LaFleur's own death date is unrecorded in the Ancestry tree.
