Biography
Eliphaz Holt was born on 23 October 1824 in Hawkins County, Tennessee, the son of Drury Holt Jr. and Sarah Cassel, and fathered a total of 14 children across two marriages. After his first wife Sarah Ann Kendall died, he married the widow Julia Ann Miller Holt on 7 September 1867 in Martin County, Indiana; Julia had two sons, Emberson and John William Holt, by her previous husband Calvin Rogers Holt, Eliphaz's first cousin. With Julia, Eliphaz fathered Noah Caswell Holt (1869), making him both biological father of Noah and stepfather of John William. The family settled in Richland Township, Cowley County, Kansas, where Eliphaz farmed and remained until his death on 21 December 1897; he is buried at Wilmot Cemetery.
