Their Story
Canadian-Irish Roots
Ellen Mooney was born in 1831 in Canada, the daughter of Lawrence Mooney (1799-1871) and Bridget Byrne. Like her future husband John C. Corrigan, Ellen came from an Irish family that had settled in Canada before moving to Wisconsin. She had at least five siblings, including one brother who became a priest (listed on Find a Grave simply as "Father Mooney").
Marriage and Family
Ellen married John C. Corrigan, and the couple settled in the Cedarburg, Wisconsin area. They had at least six children. The Mooney and Corrigan families appear to have been closely connected: Ellen's marriage to John C. Corrigan was one of at least two unions between the families, as another of William Corrigan's children, Elizabeth, also married a Mooney (though that marriage produced no children, per the family document).
Ellen died in 1888, at approximately 57 years of age, eleven years before her husband. She was buried at Saint Francis Borgia Catholic Cemetery in Cedarburg, where John would later join her.
