Biography

Nettie L. Walle was born in February 1876 in Lenzburg, Illinois (or possibly Evansville), to Jacob Walle (born in Illinois) and Mary Walle (born in Ohio). She married George W. Smothers on 26 January 1901 in Belleville, St. Clair County, Illinois.

Nettie and George had seven children. She died on 18 December 1911 from postpartum septicemia following the birth of her youngest daughter, who was subsequently named Nettie after her mother. This daughter would later be adopted by the Hyatt family and become known as Jean Hyatt Eggers.
