Their Story
Michel Honore Tesson was born in 1774 in Carondelet, near St. Louis, when the territory was under Spanish colonial administration. His father Louis Honore Tesson was a tailor who had migrated from Quebec to the Mississippi Valley; his mother Magdeleine Pitre was a native of St. Louis.
Michel grew up during a period of dramatic political change. Born under Spanish rule, he lived through the retrocession to France in 1800 and the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 that made Missouri part of the United States. His father had fought at the Battle of St. Louis in 1780, and the family was well established in the Carondelet/St. Louis area.
Around 1796, Michel married Genevieve Menard. He later married twice more: Marie Glenn and Ethelinda Parmelee. His daughter Eugenia Virginia Tesson (b. 1805) married Joseph LaFleur, continuing the family's presence in Missouri.
Michel died on 15 October 1835 at age 61.
