Biography
Frederick Thomas Orrill was born on 8 July 1869 in Pike County, Illinois, to William Tebbett Orrill, an English immigrant from Warwickshire, and Eliza F. Miller Chitwood. His mother Eliza owned the hotel in Wilmot, Kansas. The family relocated to Richland Township, Cowley County, Kansas, where Frederick farmed and raised three children with his wife Mary Alvira Woodward (known as "Mollie" or "Doll"): Alice Ada (1896), Price Vinton (1898), and Clinton Woodward (1900), all born in Wilmot. Mary Alvira also had a daughter from her first marriage to Joyce Sinclair Wells: Nina Leta Wells, making Nina the children's half-sister. Frederick built a garage on the farm specifically to house his new Model T Ford. He "rarely had his picture taken," according to his grandchildren, and is absent from the c. 1917 Orrill family portrait. He died on 4 June 1926 in Arcadia, Los Angeles County, California, just three months after his son Clinton died from burns sustained in a tar still explosion at the Standard Oil refinery in Sugar Creek, Missouri, on 13 March 1926. He is a paternal grandfather of Gale Fulghum.
All of Frederick's siblings were born in Newburg Township, Pike County, Illinois, and the family buried their dead at Bethel Cemetery there. His sister Alice Jane married a Manker; a "Beula Manker" appears as a friend of the Orrill sisters in Wilmot, Kansas (KSGenWeb photo), suggesting the Manker connection followed the Orrills from Pike County to Cowley County.
