Biography
Clara Effie Kennedy was born on 15 November 1869, the daughter of Alexander B. Kennedy and Rachael Kennedy. She married John William Holt on 20 October 1889 and together they raised 12 children on a farm of more than 80 acres in Richland Township, Cowley County, Kansas. In Gale Fulghum's memoir "The Best of Times," she appears as "Grandma Holt," one of the foster grandparents who cared for young Gale from approximately 1926 to 1928 while his mother Sybil Holt resettled. She outlived her husband by fifteen years, dying on 13 April 1953, and is buried at Wilmot Cemetery.
